Jennifer Parker-Harley Concert starts at 3 p.m. Praised by the Columbus Dispatch for her ‘beautiful sound’, flutist Jennifer Parker-Harley enjoys a versatile career as a teaching artist. Having recently joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina, she is committed to training a new generation of performers, educators and advocates for the arts. Dr. Parker-Harley is an honors graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, holds a bachelor’s degree and a performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Lomazov/Rackers Piano Duo Concert starts at 3 p.m. The Lomazov/Rackers Piano Duo came to attention in 2005 as the Second Prize Winners of the Sixth Biennial Ellis Duo Piano Competition, the only national competition for piano duo in the United States at that time. Since then, they have performed as recitalists and in concert with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. Ms. Lomazov and Mr. Rackers both hold the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music and both currently serve on the piano faculty at the University of South Carolina School of Music. Naomi Causby, piano Concert start at 3 p.m. Naomi Causby, daughter of Tom and Suzie Causby, is a student at Irmo High School in Columbia, South Carolina. This brilliant young pianist has won many prestigious awards in competitions around the US and internationally. In 2010, Ms. Causby was a co-winner of the Arthur Frasier International Concerto Competition at the Southeastern Piano Festival, a widely recognized event that provides a rigorous training platform for aspiring young pianists. As a result of winning this competition, she will play with the South Carolina Philharmonic in a Masterworks series concert in April 2011. John Kenneth Adams Concert start at 3 p.m. A noted performer of French piano music, John Kenneth Adams has performed the complete piano music of Claude Debussy in cycle, as well as important works by Fauré, d’Indy, Ravel, Chausson, Poulenc and Satie. His debut in London brought him instant recognition as a important artist in the French tradition. He is a graduate of Yale School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, London. A recognized exponent of the teachings of Tobias Matthay, Dr. Adams is in constant demand as a master teacher, judge and lecturer. Laury Christie with Charles Fugo Concert start at 3 p.m. Laury Christie’s musical career bridges the US and European opera theaters and concert halls. To her credit she has hundreds of performances of 35 major opera roles in the soprano repertoire and in concert with such orchestras as the Boston, Chicago, Charleston, South Carolina Philharmonic and Milwaukee Symphonies. As a member of the music faculty at the University of South Carolina, Ms. Christie was an active performing artist and master class teacher regionally, nationally and internationally. Upon her retirement in 2004, she was awarded the title Distinguished Emerita Professor of Music. Accompanying her on the piano will be Dr. Charles Fugo, Professor of Music at the University of South Carolina. He has played collaborative recitals at New York City’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and performed extensively throughout the Southeast in ensembles, as accompanist and as a solo artist. Christopher Berg Concert starts at 3 pm Christopher Berg, guitarist, received his training at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, in master classes with Andrés Segovia at the University of Southern California, and at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis in Switzerland. He has performed recitals in Carnegie Recital Hall and Merkin Hall in New York in addition to hundreds of recital and concerto appearances throughout the United States including the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. Mr. Berg is a professor of music at the University of South Carolina where he directs the classical guitar program. His students have won top prizes in regional and national competitions. Jesselson / Fugo Duo
Concert starts at 3 pm Since their formation in 1981, the Jesselson/Fugo Duo has been delighting audiences in the South with their impeccable ensemble playing and the rich literature for cello and piano. With special emphasis on the Romantic repertoire, the duo also performs music from the Baroque period, and works by contemporary composers such as Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Barber, Carter and Messaien. Robert Jesselson is Carolina Distinguished Professor at the University of South Carolina where he teaches cello and plays in the American Arts Trio. Charles Fugo is currently Professor of Piano at the University of South Carolina School of Music, where he teaches applied piano and coaches chamber music.
